Our Process

Our Process

1.

Initial Inquiry & Evaluation

After contacting Robert Thompson Contracting for the first time, we evaluate your project and return your call or email within three business days.

It’s extremely crucial to us — and the success of your renovation — that we’re the perfect fit for your project, and vice-versa. Due to overwhelming demand, Robert Thompson Contracting cannot accommodate every request we receive. We carefully assess every request and advise if our company can take on your project or if we may have to decline due to scope, budget or location.

2.

Site Visit & First Meeting

If we’re the right fit for your renovation, and your renovation is the right fit for us, an initial meeting to assess your space, discuss your goals, and define your budget.

3.

Design Phase Begins

Once an initial contract is set, we get to work on creating a concept design, based on your hopes, dreams, functionality, codes, and budget. During this phase, we complete a site survey and put together a base plan, we research, identify and assess your property to gather by-law, zoning, lot coverages, offsets, and conservation restrictions. Additionally, we get together for a second wish-list meeting to confirm your ideal design and functionality goals, and cross-reference them with any of our gathered property research, then develop a plan to take back to our design team. We then present a 2D design concept based on previous meetings and gathered insight, along with the estimated build costs and timelines to complete your project. After the 2D presentation, we take any of your revisions and edits and finalize a concept, scope of work, and final budget estimate.

4.

Contact & deposit

Once a decision to proceed is reached, we start on the project to formalize contracts, gather signatures, and obtain a deposit cheque.

5.

Permits & drawings

We do everything by the book — no cutting corners here. If there’s a permit needed for your project, we can initiate the permit application on your behalf. Permit drawings will need to be made, and construction details confirmed.

6.

Orientation meeting

We meet with you, pre-construction, and review plans and timelines to complete your project efficiently and effectively, in a way that’s easiest on you and your family.

7.

Construction begins

Now you get to kick back and relax while we get to work on your renovation project.

8.

We build & Communicate

As we work on your renovations project, we always keep the lines of communication wide open.
